Purposeful Planning for Professional Development

Presenter: Dr. Beth Moriarty, Director of Residence Life and Housing

The term “professional development” can mean different things to different people – for many they mistakenly believe that “professional development” only means going to conferences and being involved with various professional organizations. This session will challenge participants to broaden their view on professional development.  We will discuss 4 different methods of professional development. 1) Keeping up with current trends in the field, 2) Getting involved within your department, 3) Getting involved on-campus and 4) Getting involved in professional organizations.   Participants will be given tips and tools to create an annual professional development plan and the session content will be applicable to all levels of experience and types of positions within the student affairs division.

  1. Hi Cindy,

The content of the session really resonates with me because the I employ all four methods and they’ve all been very effective when it comes to personal and professional learning.

    Thank you,
