The Student Affairs Professional Development Committee is excited to announce the return of our annual book club!
Resident Director Mike Goodhart will facilitate our book club on “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking” by Susan Cain. The book club will have its first meeting on Wednesday, November 6 from 12 – 1 over lunch (byo), in RCC 210 (Hingham Room). Future dates and locations will be decided in our first meeting (and based on feedback on this sign-up form if you can’t make the first meeting but want to attend later meetings). We plan to meet every 2-3 weeks and read a chapter at a time through the end of the spring semester. Books will be provided to participants.
Susan Cain’s book describes how introverts are often undervalued (and undervalue themselves) in organizational settings. She details the lives of several “successful” introverts and how we can bridge the gap in differences between introverts and extroverts. This is NOT a book just for introverts; we welcome individuals of all personalities!
If you’re not familiar with Susan Cain’s work, she’s done a terrific TED Talk (about 19 minutes long), but if you’re looking for a more concise perspective, we welcome you to view this short 4-minute interview!
To sign up to participate in this year’s book club, please complete the form here by Friday, November 1 to give us time to order enough books.
We hope you will join us!
